The purpose of corrugation is to generate turbulence in the liquid flowing inside (or outside) the pipe. This increased turbulence results in a higher heat exchange efficiency, which can be twice as high as in a smooth tube.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This means that, for a given application, a corrugated tube heat exchanger will require less exchange surface area than a smooth tube heat exchanger (up to half!!!). They are made of AISI 316 stainless steel and have a built-in expansion joint, as shown in the attached figure.
