Smooth tube heat exchangers are the conventional alternative to corrugated tubes; they are generally more expensive, but may be of interest in certain applications. They are available at relatively short lead times in a wide range of standardized models, and can be tailor-made for special situations.
This type of exchanger is built with a removable tube bundle, so that in case of corrosion, breakage or other incident, the tube bundle can be repaired or, if this is not possible, easily replaced by a new one.
