Corrugated Tube Exchangers

Corrugated pipe is an ordinary pipe that has undergone a mechanical deformation process that gives it a “spiral” appearance. The purpose of corrugation is to generate turbulence in the liquid flowing inside (or outside) the pipe. This increased turbulence results in a higher heat exchange efficiency, which can be twice as high as in a smooth tube.

This means that, for a given application, a corrugated tube heat exchanger will require less exchange surface area than a smooth tube heat exchanger (up to half!!!). It will therefore take up much less space, require less material and labor to build and will therefore be much more economical.

Types of Construction

Corrugated tube heat exchangers can be built in the same types as plain tube heat exchangers: single tube (monotube), multi-tube, shell and tube, etc., as required by the application characteristics.

The most common are single or multi-stage casing-and-tube systems. They are also manufactured in special executions, for example for the pharmaceutical industry, with no possibility of cross-contamination.

The standard material of construction is AISI 316 stainless steel.

SEDITESA maintains a permanent stock of single pass shell and tube heat exchangers, with unit capacities up to 1,500,000 kcal/h. They are made of AISI 316 stainless steel and have a built-in expansion joint, as shown in the attached figure. This allows us to immediately deliver heat exchangers that allow us to solve a large proportion of our customers’ heat exchange needs.
